Happy Leap Day!

What's rarer than Halloween, older than Memorial Day, and February's only redeeming quality? Yes! It's Leap Day! Happy Leap Day everyone! Our daughter's due date is exactly 2 months from today!

Leap Day arises from the fact that the earth revolves around the sun once every 365 days and 6 hours...the Romans first institutionalized Leap Day into the calendar as part of the reforms made by Julius Caesar when he took over the Republic in the first century BC. The English decreed in 1256 that legally, February 29 was the same day as February 28. I've heard, but cannot confirm, that many hospitals allow parents of newborn babies choose either February 28 or March 1 for the legal birthday of their offspring if the baby is lucky enough to be born on a Leap Day. Also, due to the fact that the extra 6 hours is actually, like, 5.999 hours, there is a movement afoot to proclaim that once every 4000 years, we should leave a Leap Day out to re-correct the calendar. These are the sorts of people who obviously have too much time on their hands. If they need something to throw their motivation behind, I have a few ideas.

For further calendar wierdness, check this out: in every year, April 4, May 9, June 6, July 11, August 8, September 5, October 10, November 7, December 12, and the last day of February always land on the same day of the week.
