Columbia, Missouri

Over conference weekend we were very blessed to find out that Dave had the entire weekend off!  That is right Saturday and Sunday - two days in a row.  We decided we didn't want to miss out on an opportunity like that so we packed up the family on Saturday and drove to Columbia, Missouri.  Columbia is about 2 hours from our house.  We stayed for just one day so that we could enjoy General Conference in our home on Sunday.

In Columbia we visited Rock Bridge State Park.  It is a very cool place with lots of interconnecting boardwalks over a natural rock bridge that is really an old cave which is opened up to the world.  There are still caves to explore there but were closed during our visit due to bat hibernation. 

The kids did wonderful on the trip.  The girls loved exploring and hiking around.  Dave and I loved it too.  We love being outside.  Adam did great and just hung out in the baby carrier.

While in Columbia we also explored The District, an area where three university campuses intersect.  It has fun shops and restaurants.  We walked on the University of Missouri campus a little bit.  We saw the Museum of Art and Archeology.  The girls were impressed with their full size replicas of Greek statues.  There is an obelisk on the campus that is Thomas Jefferson's original gravestone.  The University of Missouri was the first university to be established in the Lousianna Territory which was purchased during Jefferson's tenure as president.  That is why the obelisk was given to the university.  It is confusing though, when I saw the obelisk I thought that Thomas Jefferson was buried on the campus.  However, he is not.
